Alma still had the key to the house. Although Siegel's family wanted her gone he left strict rules protecting her. Alma met with Crossman, the lawyer, he explained that Siegel had left Alma to be beneficiary of his estate. He also said that Alma would receive a certain amount of money monthly, she will also have her tuition, room, and board paid for in her schooling and nurse school. She would have the estate until his literacy worker, Essler, decided what to do with Siegel's estate. Alma felt comfort knowing Siegel still needed her and that he trusted her.
